| Jared Layman and Amber Fuller, who were friends all throughout high school, began their singing debut together in 1999 when Amber moved in with Jared who shared a small studio apartment with his girlfriend in Prescott, Arizona. The cramped living conditions and the fact that there was never any electricity made it easy for the three roommates to ignore the problems of the rest of humanity and create their own world that would later be known as the Carleton Street Mediocrity. Nights were spent sitting on the floor (amidst many of the friends who came by to share in the excitement of the atmosphere) listening to Jared play his guitar in the candlelight. Later, silly jingles were made up as Amber sung lyrics that were inspired by articles written in Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and other such "girlie" magazines, and were accompanied by Jared's upbeat guitar tunes. The two had such musical chemistry that they were able to make up complete ballads of love, sexual diseases, chrome torpedoes on chevy cars, feminine deodorant spray, etc. etc. completely by improvisation. As time passed they went their separate ways. Later, in August of 2001, they were reunited for a short time and were able to recreate the great times spent in the small apartment in Arizona. Thus, "Carlos" was born. Recorded on it's first take and done completely by improvisation, the two proved that the musical chemistry was still alive. The two do not make music together anymore, but Jared, wherever you are...I Love and miss you dude! |
